On my last lunchbreak stroll during my workdays in Oslo last week I went into GlasMagasinet. I have been to Oslo earlier, but have never had the time to enter this store. But it happens to be one of Norway’s oldest department store since 1899.
I think you can kind of compare it to our Bijenkorf, but in my believe GlasMagasinet sells even more exclusive stuff. From glassware ( a lot, everywhere!!!) to a bridal boutique! And from a pharmacy to a jeweller to traditional Norwegian folk costumes.
The only thing which I found a pity to see in comparison to all the shiny, over the top luxury stuff, was the in house café.
But of course there has to be this one section which I did drool over and over again…. and that was the Design Letters by Arne Jacobsen section. Hell yeah! The original!
Who is Arne Jacobsen? He was one of Denmarks most influencial furniture designers and a pioneer towards minimalistic Danish design. Next to the Design Letters he’s also the founder of e.g. the famous Egg chair.
So at GlasMagasinet they sell the Vintage ABC Kids collection. Possibly the most stylish and educational dinnerware in the world!
